It really depends. What will you be shooting. I have use both cameras and I have to say the D60 gives you better skin tones. Canon tends to be better for outdoor, panoramic picture taking. Don't get me wrong, both are great, but if you were to take pictures of people, go with the Nikon. If you want an all around camera, the XTI is a better option to go….but why go with the XTI when you could get the XS for less than $500? XS is a better, nicer and faster camera…

These are both excellent cameras for the money! I think the D60 is a little cheaper, and I know the lenses for it are! And, the lenses by Nikon are the world standard (outside of Germany, at any rate). I love Canon for point and shoot cameras, but go with Nikon for dSLR's… …what I like about the Nikon, aside from tremendous quality, is that it is a little lighter weight AND the camera is a little easier to understand. Happy Holidays

I have to disagree with Goldwing. In my opinion, Canon and Nikon are both Great brands, none is better than the other. I have used both Canon and Nikon, and they are equal. By no means in Nikon is better than Canon, and vice versa. These cameras are almost identical. Each have ten megapixel sensors, each have a self-cleaning sensor, and each have a two and a half inch screen. The D60 has a CCD sensor, and the Canon has a CMOS sensor. Photographers say that CMOS is the better sensor. I have used a Canon XTI before, and i like it, i really do suggest it. You need to go to the store, and try them both out for yourself. No one on here can say which camera is better for YOU. You need to see how each feels in your hand. They will produce almost identical image quality. One might be better with handling sensitivity, however.

Nikon is better for Portraits, and Canon is better for outdoor pictures? Now that is garbage.
