The 18-55mm kit lens that comes with most D60 cameras is a great start. My suggestion for the next optic would be the Nikon 55-200mm vr (vibration reduction). Together, you’ll have a very nice 18-200mm range that covers most of what many photographers need.

I’d also look at an SB-400 or SB-600 flash to compliment your camera as either will help you capture indoor photos with more flattering lighting and greater range than the built-in flash can.

Whether your budget is $100 or $10,000 – I’d recommend Nikkor 50mm f1.8. Great fast/sharp lens!

You should learn with this lens and move on to other lenses based on what you like to shoot.
